Cartisan Maps is the evolution of a custom mapping business model put in motion during 2001. As an avenue to release pent up creative notions and cartographic explorations, Brody Dittemore began developing map products for markets insufficiently catered to by their current suppliers. Initially, these were map and information systems for independent travelers, a passion shared by Brody, progressing into educational map products for classroom use.

Then in 2003, a friend from Humboldt State University’s geography department began to take interest, primarily in the potential for educational and event maps. Cartisan Maps was established, a custom map firm with Oscar Larson heading the business development angle and Brody leading the cartographic ventures.

Cartisan Maps, a successful all-purpose, custom mapping firm, focuses on the aesthetic and the purposeful, while concentrating on production of maps for travel/tourism, events, textbooks, weddings, GIS, and street maps. Our technology intensive operation necessitates the usage of the most appropriate digital methods available, including more than ten graphic design applications, three GIS suites, and a handful of other software solutions. We integrate color calibration, geographic information systems (GIS), database applications, and the latest data with time-honed cartographic processes founded centuries ago.

It is our clients, however, that make this all possible. Therefore, we thank you and look forward to creating your next custom map or GIS solution.

Sincerely,

Brody, Oscar, and the rest of the Cartisan map staff.
